STORY READING DURING SUMMER HOLIDAYS

25-05-2019

For Class VI

It is always fun to read short and interesting stories. Moreover if they give us something to learn in the end it becomes all the more better. Read the following story in your summer break. An activity based on this will be there in the month of July.

The Four Sons

There lived an old man in a village. He had four sons. In spite of all his efforts, the old man could not make his sons earn for their living. In addition, they were always fighting among themselves.
The old man thought of a plan. He called his sons and said, “Look my dear sons, in the barren land we have at the farmyard, there is a hidden treasure. If you should work together, you may find it."
In a wish to find the treasure the four sons worked hard by digging and digging all through the land. They got frustrated and returned to their father.
“There is no treasure in the land. They complained to their father.
“Now that you have softened the land. Why should not you cultivate it?" was the reply of their father to their query.
Off went the sons. Soon the whole barren land was rich crops.
“This is the real treasure my sons" said the now proud father. The quarrelling sons then on lived in harmony and became rich soon.

Moral: Hard-work is always fruitful.

STORY READING DURING SUMMER HOLIDAYS

For Class V

It is always fun to read short and interesting stories. Moreover if they give us something to learn in the end it becomes all the more better. Read the following story in your summer break. An activity based on this will be there in the month of July.

                                                Help Yourself

Once, two mice entered a dairy. As they were looking for something to eat, they slipped and fell into a large-drum full of milk. They did not know how to swim. Soon they started drowning.

Both of them started struggling to stay afloat. One of the mice said, "Friend, I think we are going to drown. No one can help us now. I wish God would send someone to help us!"

The other mouse calmly said, "Do not be afraid my friend. We must not lose heart. We must keep trying."

But a few minutes later, the first mouse gave up hope. He did not try and so he drowned. The other mouse saw his friend drowning in the milk and felt very sorry.

He kept moving his legs to try to keep afloat. Soon this had a churning effect and a thick layer of cream fat was formed on the milk's surface.

With great effort, the mouse climbed the creamy layer and jumped out to safety. The mouse realized that God helps those who help themselves.

Moral: God help those who helps themselves.

 The Truthful Woodcutter.

One day a wood cutter's axe accidentally fell into a river. The poor wood cutter made a good search in the water.
But his efforts were in vain. Finally he burst into tears. Hearing his sobs, an Angel appeared before him.
The Angel dived into the river and came up carrying a golden axe. The wood cutter did not accept it. He stated that his axe was made of iron.
The Angel disappeared and soon returned with a silver axe. The wood cutter again denied that it was his axe.
The Angel once again plunged into the river. It soon reappeared carrying the axe of the wood cutter. The poor man greeted the angel with words of profuse thanks and great joy.
The Angel was impressed by the man's honesty.
She presented him with the golden and silver axes in recognition of his truthful nature.

The Cap-Seller and the Monkeys

Once, there was a cap-seller in a town. On one fine day, he was selling caps.
